Elite Dangerous deploys a fix to weapons engineering in an effort to alleviate material grinds

Elite Dangerous players have been rewarded for finding and analyzing game-breaking bugs in the past, such as the recent “Uprising” event in which players were awarded with in-game credits and data caches after the launch of the game’s second expansion. While this was a welcomed occurrence, the incentive was not very substantial, as players across the galaxy were unable to access these caches and credits, as the bug prevented everyone from doing so. Players have been begging for a solution to this bug for months, but Elite Dangerous’ developers have been slow to patch it.

Elite Dangerous is an incredibly popular space simulation game, and it has a healthy community of players who spend a lot of time working on NPC characters and creating ships for themselves, which they can then use in the game. That said, there’s a big problem with grinding in Elite Dangerous: the amount of time it takes to get rare resources like raw materials, which are used to unlock weapons, armor and other items.

Materials needed to make weapons in Elite Dangerous: Odyssey is pretty high at the moment, all things considered. In a recent small patch for the game, Frontier Developments seems to be trying to address this problem, and the announcement of the patch itself has sparked a discussion about shredding materials in the expansion.

The contents of the patch are quite small: Weapon recipe numbers have been corrected and ingredients not needed in some recipes have been removed. These problems affected accuracy, head damage, and range of various weapon modifications. The idea, according to the developers’ reply in this thread, is to reduce the fear of hardware requirements by listing the ingredients correctly. As for the specific balance changes for the mods in question, another reply states that the changes are too large to describe in detail, as they affect several weapon mods from all manufacturers.

This thread has prompted several messages from players, many of whom are asking for a significant reduction in building materials requirements, as well as improvements to costumes and weapons. Other players want tech mods for weapons to be removable and interchangeable; adding new mods for the same type of weapon requires purchasing a separate weapon and brand new grinding gear.
