How to fix Chromebook Camera stopped working/not detected

I’m sure you’ve noticed by now if you’ve been following my posts, I really like my Chromebook. I like it so much I’m taking it to work with me so I can use it on the train and while I’m waiting for meetings. I usually don’t even have to power it on – I just put it on silent and it stays quiet.

The Chromebook’s camera is a mystery to many Chromebook users, especially since it doesn’t work on every machine. I’ve heard of people who have to keep their camera powered on to get it to work, or who have trouble getting it to detect. My own Chromebook, a 2012 i3, has a “No Camera” message on the display, even though I have enabled it. In other cases, it works fine, but I can’t figure out how to make it take a picture.

To get some new features, you need to switch to the latest version of your Chromebook, and if you don’t, you might run in to problems. This guide will show you how to update your Chromebook to the latest version, and how to fix problems you may run into while doing so.

Due to continuous video conferences, meetings, and calls online, many users have become best friends with their computer webcams. When there is business or education to be done, Skype, Zoom, Google Meet, Facebook, Apple FaceTime online app, and others are often used communication tools. Let’s not forget about video calls with friends and family members over the weekend or after work.

The built-in computer web camera on Chromebooks makes things easier. But what if it breaks down or isn’t detectable when you need it? Is there a way to fix a faulty webcam on Chrome OS that has ceased operating due to a black screen problem?

The answer is yes. There are workarounds that you can do to resolve the Chromebook camera app errors. Let’s check them out below. But before that, here are some of the top camera problems that are common to Chromebook users:” alt=”Your-camera-is-currently-unavailable-Black-screen-error-on-Chromebook-computer” width=”930″ height=”578″ data-ez=”” data-ezsrc=”https://www.windowsdispatch.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/Your-camera-is-currently-unavailable-Black-screen-error-on-Chromebook-computer.png” />

  • “I can’t seem to locate your camera.”
  • “There was no camera found.”
  • “At this time, your camera is not available.”
  • “The camera is turning on.”
  • Only a black screen is displayed.
  • On top of a black screen, there is a red light.

Troubleshoot Camera Not Detected or Stopped Working on Chromebooks and ChromeOS Devices with Black Screens

If you can’t access the camera or have other issues with your Chromebook computer, such as the webcam presenting a dark screen, a variety of causes could be to blame. You can try troubleshooting and fixing the camera problem on ChromeOS one by one to identify which culprit is causing the problem.

DO YOU REQUIRE A NEW DEVICE? Right now, Amazon has a few inexpensive Chromebooks available.

Solution #1: Close the video conferencing application you’re using.

Restart your video conferencing app if it doesn’t identify your Chromebook camera. Disconnect the call and close the app, then reopen it after a few seconds. Check to see whether a fast app refresh fixes the camera problem.

Restart your Chromebook Device as a second option.

  • Go to the bottom of your screen to the Status Tray.
  • Press and hold the Power button.
  • Select Power Off from the menu.
  • On your keyboard, look for the Power key.
  • Hold down the button until your Chromebook relaunches.
  • Reopen your video conferencing app and give it another shot.

Solution #3: Use another video conferencing app to check the camera status.

If you’re having trouble with the camera on a Skype chat, try switching to another video conferencing program like Zoom or Google Meet and seeing if the camera works there. If this is the case, it could be a problem with your previous video conferencing app.

Solution #4 – Make sure your video conferencing app is up to date.

If the problem is with your program, you may have missed any significant updates that the developer has released. It’s possible that’s why you’re seeing the camera error. Install the most recent version updates for your program. Relaunch the app after the update is complete and make another video call.

Solution #5 – Check for Camera Issues on Your Chromebook

  • Click the Launcher button at the bottom of your screen.
  • Extend is the option to choose.
  • Select View all applications from the menu.
  • Choose the Camera option.
  • Check to check if there are any issues with your Chromebook camera.
  • Follow the troubleshooting instructions to resolve the issues.
  • Restart your Chromebook if it hasn’t already.

Use an external camera as a solution #6.

If you need to use a camera right now but can’t fix the camera app problem on Chrome OS, you can plug in an external web camera to your Chromebook and use it for video calls. After the call, you can continue troubleshooting.

You will factory reset your Chromebook if you powerwash it. It means erasing all of your data from your computer. If you must reach this conclusion, make a backup of any vital papers and files before using the Powerwash approach.

  • Start by going to the Settings menu.
  • On the left side, click the Advanced button.
  • Reset the settings by clicking on it.
  • Select Powerwash from the right-hand panel.

If you don’t want to factory reset your Chromebook but are still having issues with the camera, you can contact the Chromebook manufacturer for assistance. Customer service is good at Samsung, HP, Acer, Lenovo, Asus, Dell, and Google.
